Wannabe Rumble, An experimental multi-SI fanfiction project Options

Hi all, from this point on we'll be changing how Wannabe Rumble runs.

Basically, it'll be the Wannabe Rumble!: the COMMUNITY multi-SI Fan Fiction Project.

Meaning everyone can now post their own fan fictions. A copy of the works posted here will also be available at the WR temporary site. (www.tabulas.com/~mkkpn)

However, I do strongly suggest the following guidelines so as to keep the fun intact:
1) If possible, include the other original WR characters in your story, and don't forget their profiles. I think everyone appreciates it when the character they posted appears in a story. There's also a certain happiness found in putting other original characters along with your own. I'll be copying all of the profiles to the temporary site and provide links later.

2) Make it a "slice-of-life" story if possible. Simple scenario, open ended; make us witnesses to the events as they happen. Just be careful when interlapping it with a canon SR episode/scenario.
Why a slice of life story?
- no complex plot. so no need to think of grand storylines beforehand.
- leisure of writing. it's something you can write during your free time, or even at the moment where inspiration strikes you.
- less chance of conflict/contradiction between stories or with the SR anime/manga.
- ease of reading for everyone.
- easier construction/flow of ideas.
- fun to do.

3) No FINAL pairings. Some implied romance here and there would be a nice touch. But please don't make a sweeping statement of you and an SR character ending up together happily ever after, the end. I know it's your story but it takes the fun out of the whole activity.

Example 1: Mik and Youko met again by accident during the summer, in which they ended up touring around Yagami, looking for stuff that Youko needs for her art exhibit. During that time, they discovered that they share some things in common, particularly in their life's philosophies. After they parted as the night sets in, Mik wonders about how the future might play out because of that encounter. He shakes that thought away due to the possibilities and complexities. What's important is that he moved a step. Meanwhile, a small smile carved up in Youko's face as she drives back to her home.

Example 2: Me and eri go "su-ki" at each other and became bf and gf. the end. GG.

Let's try to avoid example no.2 ok?

4) Finally, let's set a theme for our works, depending on the time of the year.
The current Summer Arc will be changed to:
The Christmas and New Year Arc! (starting from November 25,2006 until January 5,2007)
- X-mas/new year themed stories (i.e. I was thinking of an Xmas play led by Wzy, with the other roles being played by the teachers, and some students)
- Might overlap with canon SR anime events (i.e. your character is also around during the lion dance)
- Might also be stand-alone events
- Present your local celebrations! Let's enjoy the cultural variety!
- the Theme is optional. You may post a story that isn't related to the theme. A theme is placed as both a fun factor and a writing challenge for everyone.

Reasons for this sudden change:
1) The sheer writing talent in everyone.
Really. The character profiles are very creative, and each original character has certain traits/qualities that sets him/her apart from the others. Then there are the nice background stories to further add depth to the character and give everyone a peek into his/her lifestyle. I think everyone deserves to create and post his/her story.

2) Benefits of working as a group
We can help improve each other's ability by providing constructive criticisms, opinions and feedback to submitted works. Story ideas and different writing styles can also be shared around.

The recent events in my life will severely limit my writing time. (I'm transferring to a more "pocket-friendly" university. lol , and have a lot of catching up to do >.<)

A simple vision:
A collection of short "slice of life" works from the writing talents of the WR community.

A very warm thank you to everyone who participated and supported this thread. We're looking forward to your works. I'll continue posting/writing as well.

Compliments to Myah for his post, which helped me decide to take this action and open WR! writing for everyone.

Very special thanks to danchou! Who personally offered to write. (he made Chapter 3 and Chapter 6 a.k.a. GTT) Sorry for the short notice of the change. I hope you can still continue writing! Now we won't be troubled about who will write about who. haha.

hi. I guess this is one of those times that a person is struck with the motivation of writing a fan fiction of the series that he/she loves. After reading jbile's, takano's, and other excellent works, I wanted to try out writing about school rumble...but with a different approach.

SI (self-insertion) in fanfiction lingo refers to the immersion of a writer to the world that he/she is writing about through the means of creating a literary avatar/ representation of him or herself (mostly with some details added in order to "blend in" with the world he/she is writing about).
Basically, he/she writes the story with him/herself as a participant in the events that happen.

I haven't tried this style before, and even hated it at some point due to reading some SI fanfics wherein the authors portray themselves as powerful, omnipotent beings (i.e. in shounen anime fan fiction). But since the world this fan fiction will be based upon is School Rumble, I think that this threat will be non-existent.

Anyway, enough of my senseless rambling.

Since we have an active community here, I thought of making a multi-SI story, where people here can take part in it as other characters in the world of SR.

I humbly ask for the participation of anyone interested in my idea. Opinions, ideas, and constructive criticisms regarding the idea itself will be most appreciated. Just keep the flaming to wittily low levels. lol

So for a start, anyone interested in participating can write about the profile of their character. I'll start with myself.

Guys, thank you very much participating, and making very detailed profiles of your characters. It will be very challenging, but very fun as well, to put them all together along with the characters of the SR universe.

As an introduction/background, our story starts during the summer vacation before the second term. The starting chapters are more inclined to introducing our characters through short scenarios scattered throughout the course of the summer. No grand plot, no huge misunderstandings, and no action yet, but merely slices of life as they happen. lol

Chapter 1 – [Figure 1 and Figure 2] Someday!
----------
The sun rises from the eastern horizon, peeling off the shadows left by the night from the walls of Yagami High School. The school ground is devoid of life, and everything seem to be in a standstill. The only signs of movement are from the slight rustling of fallen leaves, dust, and other little things careless enough to be blown away softly by the wind.

Vacation has embraced the world again.

"BUZZT!!!"

A loud buzzer broke the serene atmosphere, and echoed throughout the empty halls. From the source of the sound, two figures can be seen standing within the remaining shadows of the topmost floor in one of the buildings.

"You're caught. That's it for today." said the one of the figures. The voice was serious, calm, and feminine.

"But isn't that a bit unfair? You said that there were 64 cameras." reasoned the other in an annoyed, but respectful masculine tone.

"65. Our profession expects the unexpected and adjusts accordingly to the given scenario." replied the female figure.

"And their buzzers are too sensitive. I merely took a peek before going in and it went off." complained the male figure.

"It's as good as being seen." answered the female as she took off a small camera from one of the small corners. "Infrared is infrared."

"Sure, sure. If you say so." said the male figure as he shook his head and walked closer to the other person. "But I still don't get it. I was told that we have the same specialty, that's why I was assigned by the organization as your apprentice. Then here you are, making me go through all these sneaking and infiltration exercises. Shouldn't you be teaching me how to ma-"

"BUZZT!" rang the buzzer loudly as he took a step closer.

"Oops, 66. Now is not the time to teach you that. It's summer after all." replied the female, in a somewhat amused tone as she took off the camera that buzzed the moment before. "What's more important is that we do something about your name."

"Huh?"

"You don't expect our classmates to call you 'puppeteer' when the term starts, right?"

"Oh...right."

"Peter."

"Who?"

"P-e-t-e-r. I just took off the excess letters from your codename." explained the female as she zipped her backpack full of micro cameras, and slugged it at her back.

"Wow, that name sounds so cool.” replied the male figure dryly, but the other person had already started making her way down the stairs.

Puppeteer (or Peter) just stood on the spot and sighed as he heard the footsteps below fading away. After a few moments, he turned his eyes towards the window and to the ground below, where he saw the female figure currently leaving the building and making her way towards the gate. A slight grin curled in his lip as he opened one of the windows and pointed his finger at the walking figure as if it were a gun.

"Takano-san, someday...someday..." he whispered to himself as he pretended to fire off a shot, his arm flung upwards due to the imaginary recoil.

"BUZZZZZZZZTTTT!!!"

"What the..?" Peter exclaimed as he noticed a small camera glued to the outside wall, placed high enough to exactly catch his arm in its infrared sensors when it "recoiled" upwards. His cellular phone started to vibrate - he just received a text message:

"67. My mistake." was all it said. Peter frowned slightly as he placed his cellphone back in his pocket and started to make his way down the stairs.

Chapter 2 – [Yagami High Teachers, Wzy, and Mik] One Fine{?} Evening
----------
Evening, in a fine cafe somewhere in Yagami.

"And so we welcome the new faculty of Yagami High." spoke Katou Kyouji in his usual dry, monotonous tone. "(Although there are only two of you, and you're sort of emergency replacements) Welcome and cheers."

"Cheers!” came the collective reply of the other teachers that gathered around the round table. They are actually only a small group, composed of Sasakura Youko - the art teacher, Osakabe Itoko - who teaches science and physics, Tani Hayato - class 2c's homeroom teacher; he teaches english as well, Katou Kyouji - class 2D's homeroom teacher and history teacher, Mr. Kouriyama - who teaches physical education, and two new teachers: Wzy - who teaches music, and Mik - who teaches World Literature.

"Thank you." said Wzy, who lifted his glass and joined with the others.

"We look forward on working with you." added Mik, as he raised his own glass.

"Haha, that's a good start!" laughed Mr. Kouriyama as he took a big gulp of orange juice from his glass. "Say, do you guys know each other before?"

Mik and Wzy both turned and glanced at each other.

"No." they flatly said at the same time.

"Okay..." Itoko commented as Youko cheerfully smiled at the two in that awkward moment. Wzy laughed slightly afterwards but Mik shifted his eyes away, seemingly a bit embarassed.

"Well, at any rate I hope you are aware of your status as teachers, even if it's just *ahem* temporary. I expect you to draw the line between yourselves and the students when the new term starts. They're in High School, and thus need both our knowledge and guidance. Well, maybe except my class, 2-D, who only needs a minimum amount of those, since they're very good and all...Unlike a certain class 2-C. Oh pardon me, I forgot their adviser is here." spoke Katou hastily as he looked at Tani Hayato, who is peacefully sipping on his milk chocolate.

"Huh? Oh, it's okay." said Tani, scratching his hair. "My class is a bit, well...loud, so I hope you guys can understand."

"And a relative of Itoko-sensei's in there too." playfully commented Youko.

"Doesn't matter." interrupted Itoko

"Really!? Could it be Takano Akira?" blurted out Kouriyama

"Doesn't matter." repeated Itoko

"HA! Then I'm correct right?" exclaimed Kouriyama

"No." Itoko answered simply

"Hmm...If I were to guess I think it would be Harima-kun." said Tani

"...no."

"Haha, you're being silly again Tani-sensei." Interrupted Katou. "But of course I can guess why." he added

"Now, now enough of that talk. We're in vacation too you know. Summer should be enjoyed. School matters are left in school." said Kouriyama

Katou gave a slightly insulting laugh before sipping on his watermelon shake. Tani remained silent as if nothing happened. Wzy and Mik were unsure of what to do, so they both just sat there, observing the situation.

"So, who's in for karaoke after this?" offered Katou. "The night's still early after all."

"Sounds good! I'm in." answered Kouriyama enthusiastically. "Let's go Tani-sensei!" (But actually, he's hoping Itoko would come.)

"Hmm..okay." answered Tani

"I'll pass." said Itoko (awwww - Kouriyama)

"I'll be going with Itoko-sensei. Sorry." said Youko with a smile.

"How about you guys?" asked Kouriyama, turning to Wzy and Mik, who were both looking clueless at the moment.

"I...guess it won't hurt to go." replied Wzy

"Umm...sorry, but I have something to do after this. But I hope you guys enjoy." answered Mik in a polite tone.

A few more minutes of chatting passed before Itoko stood up and announced that she'll be leaving. Youko did the same, and, after bidding good night to everyone, they made their way out of the cafe. A few minutes later Mik also stood up, bid everyone goodnight, and left as well.

"Hmm...Still have lots of unpacking to do." Mik said to himself as he looked at the night sky while waiting for a cab at the sidewalk. The stars can be clearly seen despite the tall buildings and bright city lights.

"BEEP BEEP!"

He nearly jumped in surprise due to the loud sound of a vehicle's horn, and was even more surprised when he saw that it came from a shiny, red sportscar...and that it stopped in front of him. The biggest shock was when its tinted windows are lowered, revealing the driver to be none other than the arts teacher.

“Mik-sensei!” Youko called out from the window. “Are you going home already?”

“Umm…yeah. I’m waiting for a cab.” Mik answered, still looking at car.

“I see. Well, good night then.” Youko said, as the tinted window slowly rose from the car’s door.

“Yeah…good night.” Mik answered, slightly waving his hand. A moment ago he thought Youko will give him a ride to his house, but now it all seemed like a far-flung fantasy, as the car’s windows were completely shut, and it revved up its engine and drove away.

Chapter 3 – First 1/2 day of school? A Dream

*Distant sound of school bells ringing

It was a typical day in Yagami High, students were slowly streaming into school and getting into their classes.

Ishikawa and Asou of class 2-C were walking towards the class after the morning physical training.

"Man, this is tiring...oh well, we have to train hard for the Regionals next month." said Ishikawa as he was dragging his feet to class
"Yeah, it is kinda of tiring I guess." Asou replied, patting his vice-cap on the shoulder.
"Woohoo, feels good to be back in school man, miss all my friends already, especially our class, I think we have bonded a lot during the sports festival, who ever knew that harima can be a good guy also.Oh well, I am soooo looking forward to the cultural festival! Maybe I can make use of this chance to get close to Eri-chan!" Ishikawa exclaimed, getting all hyper thinking abt the girl he had a crush on.
"Indeed, lets still not forget our regionals" replied Asou
"Man, you are no fun..." pouted Ishikawa as they both continued towards the class.


"Konichi... ahhhh!" shouted Ishikawa as he was greeted by a flurry of flying objects as he opened the class door.

"oowwww!! Who threw these stuff! Come out right now!" demanded Ishikawa.

"ehh ishi, i suggest you do not pursue this matter.. *points at something" suggested Asou

"Nani! How can I not bother after someone threw a frigging bunch of stuff at me!! I mean, oh...ok..never mind..." said Ishikawa,*whistles a happy tune as he walks to his seat, after his eyes trailed to where Asou was pointing, to see Lala-chan beating up Imadori.

"Ah, school has started at last, heh, summer sure was boring for me, training almost everyday, oh well, seems like the teacher isn't here yet, time to nap!!" said Ishikawa, as he was smiling happily over the fact that he can take a nap.

After a while, the class of 2-C started streaming in one by one, and in no time, everyone in the class was present, including the all time school deliquent Harima Kenji.

As usual, Ishikawa's 'short nap' lasted all the way till lunch break.

"Oi, time for lunch you lazy bum" said Asou as he nudged Ishikawa awake.
Ishikawa rubs his eyes and looks at his watch. "What! I slept through classes again! Oh man, this is sooo not good, if this continues, I am gonna have crappy results!"
"Eh, you already have crappy results" said the person sitting beside Ishikawa.

It was a typical day in Yagami High, students were slowly streaming into school and getting into their classes.

Ishikawa and Asou of class 2-C were walking towards the class after the morning physical training.

"Man, this is tiring...oh well, we have to train hard for the Regionals next month." said Ishikawa as he was dragging his feet to class
"Yeah, it is kinda of tiring I guess." Asou replied, patting his vice-cap on the shoulder.
"Woohoo, feels good to be back in school man, miss all my friends already, especially our class, I think we have bonded a lot during the sports festival, who ever knew that harima can be a good guy also.Oh well, I am soooo looking forward to the cultural festival! Maybe I can make use of this chance to get close to Eri-chan!" Ishikawa exclaimed, getting all hyper thinking abt the girl he had a crush on.
"Indeed, lets still not forget our regionals" replied Asou
"Man, you are no fun..." pouted Ishikawa as they both continued towards the class.
"Konichi... ahhhh!" shouted Ishikawa as he was greeted by a flurry of flying objects as he opened the class door.

"oowwww!! Who threw these stuff! Come out right now!" demanded Ishikawa.

"ehh ishi, i suggest you do not pursue this matter.. *points at something" suggested Asou

"Nani! How can I not bother after someone threw a frigging bunch of stuff at me!! I mean, oh...ok..never mind..." said Ishikawa,*whistles a happy tune as he walks to his seat, after his eyes trailed to where Asou was pointing, to see Lala-chan beating up Imadori.

"Ah, school has started at last, heh, summer sure was boring for me, training almost everyday, oh well, seems like the teacher isn't here yet, time to nap!!" said Ishikawa, as he was smiling happily over the fact that he can take a nap.

After a while, the class of 2-C started streaming in one by one, and in no time, everyone in the class was present, including the all time school deliquent Harima Kenji.

As usual, Ishikawa's 'short nap' lasted all the way till lunch break.

"Oi, time for lunch you lazy bum" said Asou as he nudged Ishikawa awake.
Ishikawa rubs his eyes and looks at his watch. "What! I slept through classes again! Oh man, this is sooo not good, if this continues, I am gonna have crappy results!"

Woops, I think I gave out the wrong idea. haha. I was supposed to write the story based from your characters.
But wait, don't remove your story. I'll be needing it for reference (or adding it altogether) in the later chapters since I learned a lot about Ishikawa's personality from it. It has a nice touch of school life too.

If anyone else wants to write a short slice of life story about their character (be it about their past, how they're related to another character (like chapter 1), or simply in a simple scenario (like chapter 2 and dashou's work) then it would be most welcome. It will add more depth/content to the story, and will allow me to learn more about your character aside from the details in their profiles.

And of course, I'll never forget to credit you for it.

*a morning day in a apartment room actually it was Ace's room and this day is a first day of school in 2-c
