THE LONG DELAYED IRON ART COMPETITION IS HERE.

SHOW THE WORLD YOUR ARTISTIC SKILLS AND RISE ABOVE THE COMPETITION.



It is open to everybody, except for the judges of course. Come on in and give us a taste of what you can do.


Don't be shy, this is a one in a lifetime opportunity. It is fate that brings all of you together to duke it out here and now. Step in, not only for competition but also to establish yourself as part of this grand community.

Our First Competition will be:

SIGNATURES


Again, anybody can enter (except judging team) and its open to School Rumble only.

Post your signatures in this thread as a thumbnail please!
You may use any type of image hosting site you wish.


This first competition will run until next weekend (Sunday) and then the judging will take place. There will be three judges who have been already selected and will use a 10 point system.

We will be looking for things like theme, typesetting, use of color and background, the design and elements as well as technical skills. What makes a good sig is its uniqueness and sense of identity to the author. So go wild with this thing for you are its master.

The RULES:

-Must use text in your signature.
-No Plagiarism please.
-Nothing too perverted or grotesque. (give us something we all can handle)
-Follow standard forum courtesy rules.
-Size: 25k or 550x250 (or less)

There is also the possibility of a parallel competition running soon with great rewards, wait for it.


That is all, dont be afraid to take out your tools, turn on your favorite drawing/editing program and create something we can all enjoy, even if its just for laughs.

It might be helpful to do a bit of planning before you start.

#ironart on irc.rizon.net is up, so drop by if you have further questions/comments/ideas. The ironart thread in the Eri FC will have the same function, too - so once images get posted, try to move that sort of post to the original thread.

Wouldn't that be telling, Swampstorm? Although, I do agree with "Swampy"--What are the judges looking for? As for focus, I doubt the judges will be looking for Eri in the sig (though, I may be wrong ).

Personally, I'd find anything that floats a persons boat good. As long as it's School Rumble and doesn't exceed the sizes, I'm fine with anything you guys think is good.

Now, back on topic, I encourage all participants to explore and express their creativity and use of wit for the designs of the sigs and its text. "I just like pretty colors."

Sigs could be a wide range of things. You need to give people a sense of direction so that they can strive towards some sort of goal. Just knowing what you're looking for doesn't mean that they can achieve it to perfection.

Any tips on how to reduce file size??

Optimize your images. ImageReady is what I'd think of off hand, but there are plenty of alternatives out there. Try adjusting the image resolution as well. Your choice of image compression is important for the overall size too, so play around with that. For gifs, you might be able to reduce the size by playing around with the color settings.

Try looking around for some tutorials on reducing image size - I'm sure there are a number of them out there. If you'll notice, both my present sig and the one Foressense posted are both under the limit - so you can definitely do more if you plan your sig construction carefully. That's one of the biggest challenges of this event. Good Luck!

This is giving me a blizzard of strange flashbacks of many struggles I've once faced. But I can't help but feel that the struggles were not to win awards but for a much greater purpose. I wonder, what is the true meaning behind Iron Art? Are people posting to win medals, or trophies, or are they hoping to achieve something much more valuable?

Harijaja, I suggest you reconsider your thoughts. Not everything you do in life is done for a reward. If you participate, perhaps the doors in your mind will open, offering a completely new perspective of life, and your eyes can feast on the warmth of a new light you never imagined seeing. Besides, something tells me I've gone through a great deal of public scrutiny before. I see nothing wrong with others joining. Perhaps, we can learn something off of each other.

jbiles, I'm not sure why I used that phrase either. Fortunately though, there is nothing wrong with the image, and whatever the "bad" reference the text refers to can only be perceived beyond the image so to the normal viewer, it's just an ordinary picture. If it's tasteless, the moderator can pour some salt on, that should "remove" the problem.

Spiritus, I wished you used a more closeup shot of what appears to be a cherryblossom tree. You could make good imagery with cherryblossoms blowing in the wind in synch with Yakumo's hair. Other than that, what you've got is quite good.

Here's another "perspective" at Yakumo's silence. I'm aware Yakumo wasn't meant to be centered and Harima should be lower more but this was done for fun.
