I bought this in Taiwan so the text is in Traditional Chinese. This 400-page "encyclopedia" was probably the best purchase I made this summer (Newtype magazines are 3 times the price).
Other than the typical Character Info and the reviews on what has happened up to the eleventh volume. It also contains information on interesting phrases and objects that come up throughout. Most the info is text-based and about 1/2 of it is stuff we already know presented in a different manner. However, this section would probably wow people even if language was a barrier: KJ's early designs of SR Characters     Most of the important information, translated Pg 390,391: Harima wasn't originally named "Harima Kenji" but rather, 京極誠. On the picture that features Harima and Karasuma, there's a girl that is never featured... When the Motorbike scene was drawn, Harima was not yet the main character. (It was Nara, right?) Pg 392,393: Tenma's original character setting was "normal high school girl" but when KJ decided to add her characteristical ahoge, that all changes. In the first stage, she looks much wiser... uncanny. Pg 394,395: The "Kai" version of Yakumo was made to portray the "girl that hides her emotions" character setting. Eri was originally designed with a different hair style, looking a little more gentle and caring. (cute...) Pg 396,397 Hanai had curly hair! but Mikoto looked pretty much the same. Sarah's hair was not tied up in a bun. And, Takano Akira, with Long Hair (Godliness, I love long hair  )over. |

Surprising Eri's first design on the upper left looks ALOT like Rosario+Vampire's Kurumu.
Wonder if that unpublished girl would make an appearance in SRZ? Who knows? Another Harima potential love, also glad they didn't made Nara the main guy character to many of his kind now a days in anime. Hanai had curly hair? LOL I wouldn't trade that early design. Akira is lovely with long hair, wonder why didn't KJ made her hair long in the flashback? She would gain more attention rather than the Hanai kiss.Mikoto looks the same though the eyes on the first designs looks a bit sharper. As for the uniforms, I kinda like the first uniform design KJ did, checkered skirts!  Great images! Thanks alot for the share. Iam one of the unfortunate guys that didn't got a chance to buy that book.   |

Well, I have this guidebook and it's my favorite SR Fanbook so far because it has a lot of information that sometimes don't appear on the manga.

KJ must also be a fan or knows the author/artist of FSN. Since there was a Yakumo drawing by the artist of FSN and KJ did an illustration of Ryogi Shiki.

Dang, that's an excellent purchase. How different things would have been with those other designs? Probably many of us would not have been big fans of the girls.

Woa, thx for sharing
 Interesting stuff.I wish I could buy it (translated) xD But the only databooks hitting the stores are from Naruto ... or NGE. That's about it, a shame. Makes me even gratefuller! I'm glad SR evolved more until it started - Tenma not a klutz would have been boring~ And I don't even wanna think about Harima as a side character D: I wonder if there are any notes about the first drafts of the story itself? |
